The registration of adults with cancer is organised cantonally in Switzerland and occurs in 13 cancer registries. The Childhood Cancer Registry is responsible for tracking tumours in children and adolescents. Each registry has its own institutional structure and works closely with hospitals, pathology laboratories and other bodies that must provide information on cancers. The cantonal cancer registries are each commissioned by the corresponding cantonal health directorate.
The National Agency for Cancer Registration does not record cancer cases, but only further processes and evaluates the data collected in the cantonal cancer registries.
